Hey! Welcome to my first Jblog!
My main aim with this is to journal my thoughts, share my ideas and get everything down on paper. I believe it's a very important step for myself as a developing artist & audio engineer in order to grow. For the people reading this who have been following my music and also fellow producers, I hope you enjoy and get something out of these posts! It's an awesome way for me to connect with my audience and chat in-depth about my craft.

So I'm getting really excited about the releases I'm planning between now and the end of the year. Two singles in particular that are currently in the works are both expanding into something new I haven't really done properly before. In the next few weeks you'll be seeing a new track from me which is much more club oriented than my usual downtempo style, yet still has that fun vibe which I craft into all my stuff.
I'll have some preview videos up on my instagram coming soon if you'd like an early peek at the track! For now I've got a couple reference tracks here which will give you a good idea of where my mix-down is heading towards in terms of overall aesthetic and relationship between the kick & bass, for my producer buddies this will be some cool info for you:
Coupling the playfulness of the brass chords and percussion in LXURY's 'J.A.W.S' with the tightness of the drums in Friend Within's 'The Sound' is my core approach for this track. One of the main aspects of production I've been focussing on this year is making sure that the kick and bass elements are playing their own respective roles. You should choose which one is going to cover the low and higher of the low-end frequencies, and then you can start tailoring that relationship to the shape and style of your song. This element needs to be nailed in dance music, otherwise that clarity required for a high quality product just isn't there.
For this song I have my bass-line in unison with my chord progression, it's covering the sub bass frequencies below 60Hz with some harmonics around the 150 - 200Hz range. The chord synths are high-passed at 200Hz so that you can distinguish between the instruments at those low-mid frequencies. My kick's fundamental frequency is around 60-65Hz which I've rolled off just before that so it doesn't clash with the sub. Since there's a considerable amount of sidechain compression on the bass, I can bring that kick slightly closer to the sub frequencies to retain that thump without making the mix too muddy.

Okay so that's project 1! More updates on that one very soon.
Also on the horizon is a track I'm working on featuring a multi-instrumentalist friend of mine who I'm pretty certain is one of the best violinists in Australia. The violin is an epic-sounding instrument and one that I haven't heard enough of in dance music lately. I'm really looking forward to capturing a lot unique sounds which will breathe so much life into my production and will just be a really beneficial experience overall. A vocal feature is definitely on the cards as well, however that may be pushed onto a third single depending on the direction we both take on this track. I'll keep you posted. :)
