Interactive Experience Concept

Hey guys!

So last week I introduced one of my projects that's currently in the works which is an interactive audio/visual experience for some of my upcoming music.

We're in the concept stages at this point, so here's what I think would work really well with my tracks.

Firstly the actual base mechanics of the game/experience would be a style of 'endless' exploration, gliding through the world's sky on a hang-glider in first-person. Points can be awarded for reaching various milestones or points-of-interest to introduce a little more depth to the game, however the main aspect would be focussing on how the aesthetic works with the music and enhances the experience. I really like how Kōya worked their idea of exploring a world which adapts to the music for their debut LP Braille Face. I've gotten some inspiration from this, however I would like to express it in my own Jbox aesthetic.

Here is some of the following references I've collected, and would like to blend some of these visual styles/ideas, whilst also taking some elements from my own artwork.

Firstly, I'm a huge fan of Zouassi's aesthetic of vibrant - exploding or expanding colour.

I would love to see something similar appearing in-time with the beat and/or swaying/expanding to the chord progression or percussion elements. You could potentially see these colour explosions being thrown into the sky kind of like how they do at the Colour Run events, or bleeding and blending into the ocean, all whilst you're gliding over a landscape like this:

(Lemon Jelly - Lost Horizons LP)

As for other visual style/aesthetic examples, I really enjoy the colour palette Tycho consistently expresses with a focus on the horizon within all of their visual promotion, artwork and press:

(Tycho Burning Man Set 2015)

My own artworks are usually very vibrant, and that is reflected within the music. One of the examples that actually fits quite well with this project concept would be the cover art I designed for 'Ache':

The original photo was taken from the window seat of a plane flying from Dubai to Milan a few years ago.

Gliding across the ocean with the sun reflecting off it, along with those distant low clouds with their shadows; whilst incorporating aesthetic elements from the references above - would be a super cool visual showcase for my new music.

As for when the game actually 'ends'. There could potentially be two separate modes. If you just want to chill out and play for as long as you would like; there could be 'Horizon' which is an endless mode which will either replay tracks or could dip into my entire released music portfolio and shuffle that. Or, there is 'Blue Between' which is a focus on the two-track single package set to be released (you can find the artwork for this in my last blog post). Once both songs have ended you will land on a small island signifying the end, as you have passed the 'blue between' or ocean.

More updates to come very soon!

Jbox :)
